Nunawading Swimming Club parents adopt revolutionary new training schedule for National Age Squad.

Based on a proposal from the Nunawading Coaching Staff the parents of the National Age group swimmers informally agreed to adopt a revolutionary new training schedule for the National Age Squad.

The new schedule may even be a first in Australia and is based on a schedule similar to that used by American super star swimmers Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff. This new schedule is designed for the current day high school athlete to provide them with more time for academic work during the week and it takes advantage of the weekends to increase workloads for the athletes.

In addition the new schedule has fewer early mornings where swimmers are getting up as early as 3:45am. Having more mornings to sleep in during the week, will enhance the athlete’s growth and development along with protecting the immune system – says Nunawading High Performance Coach Mr Jim Fowlie. “Taking advantage of weekends for training and competition allows us to have intensive training cycles which will have minimum interference and interfere minimally on the athlete’s academic work.

The new training schedule was adopted by the parents at their first meeting with Nunawading’s High Performance Coach Mr Jim Fowlie.
