2010 VICTORIAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

VICTORIAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS – DAY THREE - FINALS

It’s all over and our team once again did a wonderful job,

Last night we saw some sensational racing resulting in another 16 medals:

5 Gold : Ellen Gandy, Sarah Katsoulis, Shane Asbury, Jeremy Tidy and the Women’s ‘A’ relay team.

6 Silver: Amanda Drennan (2), Travis Mahoney, Ashley Delaney, Shane Asbury and the Men’s ‘A’ relay team.

5 Bronze:  Jeremy Saunders, Jeremy Tidy, Belinda Parslow, Chelsea Carpenter and Sam Ashby.

I am not going to highlight specific swims because there were so many good ones, but I did enjoy watching the Men’s 400 IM last night where Shane Asbury, Travis Mahoney, Sam Ashby and Jeremy Saunders placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively!

After 3 days of exciting racing our team won the Open and SWD championships with a total of 1,258 points.

This means in the overall championship race we came second to Melbourne Vicentre by a mere 47 points, after starting the Open section 452 points behind!  (Nunawading 3644 : Melbourne Vicentre 3691) A tremendous effort!

I want to say thank you to all the parents that donated their time to assist with timekeeping.

And lastly we should all thank the coaching team and our fantastic group of athletes that do the all the hard work.

Thanks again guys, it’s been a pleasure working with you.

GO NUNA!!

Mark and Deb.

I would like to acknowledge the large number of older club swimmers from a variety of squads (and their parents) that took the time to come in a support the young ones. I know the kids really appreciated it and I think it helped bring that special Nunawading team atmosphere to the event.

A big thank you to all our fantastic kids, who made the weekend such a success as well as obviously all the parents that helped in so many ways.  I am not going to name individuals as I am sure to forget someone, but from time keeping, to helping with stats, making lunch for officials through to running errands for the coaches. Everyone that helped contributed to making this a terrific event and I am sure you all know who you are.

I want to also thank Sonia who worked the weekend before Christmas as a Team Manager for us – despite having no kids of her own there.  Thank you Sonia , I really appreciated the help.

Lastly I am sure we all want to thank the incredible coaching staff we have at Nunawading – we are all very lucky to have coaches of the quality we have.  It seems to me that swimmers that listened to their coach – followed the processes and did what was asked of them – reaped the reward.

I look forward to seeing the results the age and open swimmers can produce in the next 2 stages of the Victorian Championships.

Team Manager
