The Club is based at Aqualink Nunawading in Fraser Place, Forest Hill. The Centre boasts an indoor 8 lane 50m pool and separate teaching and junior squad leisure pool.

This scholarship, valid from 1 May 2010 for the 2010/11 swimming season, and was first presented in 1990/91, aims to foster swimmers with proven potential as competitive swimmers who may not have access to the high standard of facilities and coaching that are available at the Nunawading Swimming Club.
Scholarship winners will receive:
- Free swim coaching and gym training (approx value $2000);
- Free entry fees to State and National Championships (approx value $300);
- Free flights to National Championships (approx value $1000);
- One issue of all standard Nunawading Swimming Club gear including tracksuit, t-shirt, bathers and 2 swim caps (approx value $300).
- Estimated total value $3,600.
Eligibility
Applicants should be:
• Registered swimmers;
• Aged 12 years and over;
• Highly motivated.
They should have displayed:
• Exceptional swimming ability;
• Potential for further development as competitive swimmers.
The period of the Scholarship is one year (1 May 2010 to 30 April 2011). Past winners of the scholarship will not be eligible to re-apply. Nunawading Swimming Club members are not eligible to apply. SWIMMER SERVICE & SUPPORT PROGRAM 2009/10
Nunawading Swimming Club continues its commitment to provide all Club swimmers with a comprehensive and well-supported squad program that includes the development of each individual swimmer. The Club has significantly developed its coaching and support structures in recent years and these initiatives have led to strong performances at a State, National and International level.
A revised Swimmer Service and Support program has been developed for the 2009/10 season that includes development opportunities identified by the coaching team as being crucial to a swimmer progressing to a high National and VIS level. These changes will ensure more effective support and services are provided to swimmers, with the goal to provide a pathway of support to each athlete that underpins the support provided by the VIS.
Swimmer support will initially be allocated based on times swum at the Australian Championships in March 2009, the Australian Age Championships in April 2009 and the Australian Open Water Swimming Championships in February 2009. The program will be effective from 1st May 2009.
The implementation of this program will increase the level of support for provided to swimmers compared with the previous program.
The following information is based on the FINA Point Score (FPS), the Australian Age Point Score (AAP) and the Disability International Point Score (DIPS). These point scores can be sourced from http://www.swimclub.com.au/swimming_rankings.htm at the bottom of the page.
The Support Program
The NSC Swimmer Service and Support Program shall consist of the following 5 levels and shall be administered as follows:
- Only the highest point score (FPS, AAP, DIPS) or ranking (OWS) can be used to determine the level of support;
- Only Long Course times will be considered (except OWS);
- Swimmers shall be selected each season from the times swum at the Australian Championships, Australian Age Championships and Australian Open Water Swimming Championships. The Board, after consultation with the coaches, have the ability to add athletes anytime during the year if they meet the performance criteria for a new level at a long course meet throughout the season;
- Support for all swimmers shall be provided to the 30th April 2010 where the swimmer selection will be reviewed again based of the 2009/10 results;
- Swimmers added to the program or moving to a higher level shall be eligible for pro-rata support for the time remaining in the season;
- All selected swimmers shall be asked to sign an agreement with the Club that they will compete for the Club throughout the season and at the Victorian and Australian Championships in that season;
- Additional skinfolds, screenings and one-on-one sessions are available to swimmers at the Nunawading Base Level and Nunawading Level 2 at a wholesale cost to the swimmer;

Nunawading Base Service
A minimum level of service shall be provided to all swimmers in the National squads. This includes:
- All swim coaching services;
- Strength and conditioning coaching utilising the Visual Coaching Program;
- Facility access to all training pools;
- Venue hire for leased pools;
- Coach support at competitions;
- Up to 2 skinfolds per year for swimmers in National Open & National Youth
- Blood screening – one per year (through Medicare)
- Video analysis - 2 per season
- 1 camp or competition per year partly subsidised by the Club
Income to fund the primary squad service will be sourced from monthly training fees and a contribution from the Swim School surplus each year.
Nunawading Level 2 Support
Criteria:
Open - 770-799 FPS
Age - 42-47 AAP
SWD - S7-13 650 DIPS; S1-6 600 DIPS
Open Water - 4th in 10km at Australian Age or Open OWS Championships AND finishing within 5 minutes of 1st place; Medal in 5km at Australian Age OWS Championships;
Support:
NSC will support swimmers who achieve these standards with an extra level of support.
This includes:
- 2 screenings per year
- 1 one-on-one sessions with S&C coach and physio to individually analyse
- Up to 4 skinfolds per year
- Blood screening – two per year (through Medicare)
- 2 camps or competitions per year partly subsidised by the Club
- Additional video analysis;
Income to fund this support program will be sourced from monthly training fees and a significant contribution from the Swim School business each year.
Nunawading Level 1 Support
Criteria:
Open - 800 FPS
18/Under - 48+ AAP
SWD -S7-13 800; S1-6 700 DIPS
Open Water -Medal in 10km at Australian Age or Open OWS Championships;Medal in 5km at Australian Open OWS Championships;
Support:
NSC will support swimmers who achieve these standards with an additional level of support.
This includes:
- 1 Personal Development workshop (group sessions);
- 4 screenings per year;
- 2 one-on-one sessions with S&C coach and physio to individually analyse screenings;
- Up to 6 skinfolds per year;
- Blood screening – two per year (through Medicare)
- Additional video analysis;
- Visual Coaching Diary including yearly fee
- 3 camps or competitions per year partly subsidised by the Club
- Opportunity to train in external program in lieu of camp identified by individual needs
Income to fund this support program will be sourced from monthly training fees and a significant contribution from the Swim School business each year.
VIS National Scholarship
Criteria:
19/0ver –National Time Standard 19+ (Approx 830 FINA Point Score)
18/Under –National Time Standard (Approx 810 FINA Point Score)
SWD - Approx 930 DIPS
Open Water – Athletes who are selected to swim for Australia at the major
International competition Open 10km event will be eligible for a VIS Scholarship. The level of this scholarship and support will be at the discretion of the Program Management Committee.
Support:
This program is funded by the VIS, including squad fees, a base funding and competition and camp funding. The Club has an agreement with these athletes and the VIS in regards to the funding of their training, competition and ancillary swimming needs.
VIS Elite (Level 2) Scholarship

This program is fully funded by the VIS, including squad fees, a base funding and competition and camp funding. The Club has an agreement with these athletes and the VIS in regards to the funding of their training, competition and ancillary swimming needs.
CLUB SUBSIDIES:
Where the Board chooses to apply subsidies to assist swimmers to attend National Championships, the following will apply:
[1] For each interstate Australian Championships, Australian Short Course Championships, Australian Age Championships and Australian Open Water Championships, the Swim Committee shall present to the Board the names of swimmers who are entered to compete at the meet and their eligibility for subsidy according to the criteria below. This shall be provided to the Board at least 4 weeks prior to the Championships for approval;
[2] The Board has allocated the following total support towards the following interstate National Championship events to be reviewed annually.
(a) Australian Championships $7,000
(b) Australian Age Championships $7,000
(c) Australian Short Course Championships $5,000
(d) Australian Open Water Championships $1,000 with a maximum $300 assistance to any one swimmer
[3] To be eligible for a travel subsidy the swimmer must have competed for NSC at the most recent Victorian Long Course Championships. The swimmer is required to compete in at least 3 individual events and make themselves available for club relays, if selected;
[4] This By-Law shall apply for all Club members including new Club members;
[5] If swimmers cannot compete at any of the meets listed in [2] above due to a Swimming Australia swim meet or camp, it is assumed that the NSC swimmer would have competed at the meet;
[6] The Club shall also support squad trips or camps as deemed possible throughout each season.
TERTIARY ASSISTANCE SUBSIDY
Swimmers who are completing Year 12 shall be offered the following reduction in fees in 2009.
February 2009 to October 2009 $50 reduction on monthly squad fees
November 2009 50% reduction on this months squad fee
Full fees will be payable in January and December each year.
Swimming Australia Junior Excellence (JX) Program
The 2009/10 Junior Excellence (JX) Time Standards have now been finalised by Swimming Australia.
All Nunawading swimmers aged 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13 years should be aiming to achieve as many of these times as possible over the 2009/10 season (1 April 2008 to 31 March 2010).
Nunawading had the highest number of members achieve a JX time standard in Australia last season and we would like to retain this record.
The JX program provides every Nunawading swimmer aged 9 years to 13 years to be recognised for their performances throughout the year.

SWIMMER SUPPORT STAFF
Physiotherapy (Physiohealth)
Nunawading Swimming Club has joined forces with Physiohealth, one of Victoria and Australia’s leading physiotherapy and massage service organisations.
Physiohealth is located at Aqualink Nunawading, the Club’s home pool, and Physiohealth staff have a very strong background in swimming and providing the appropriate support for swimmers around their training and racing schedules. Many of the Physiohealth staff work with the Victorian Institute of Sport and have been members of the Australian Swimming Team as masseurs and physiotherapists.
Nunawading Swimming Club continues to work closely with Physiohealth for all your physiotherapy, massage and myotherapy needs. NSC is responsible for the Physiohealth reception services in return for a discount for all Club members. Physiohealth’s normal initial fee is $70.00 and the normal standard fee is $60.00. These are inline with other clinics in the industry.
The following discounts will apply to NSC members in 2009.
National squad members will be pay $54.00 initial consultation and $42.00 for a standard consultation, representing a substantial discount of 23% and 30% respectively.
All non-national squad members and Nunawading families will be on $60.00 initial fee and $50.00 for a standard consultation, representing a discount of 14% and 17% respectively.
NSC swimmers benefit from these discount rates as well as having access to the best swimming physiotherapists in the sport of swimming working directly at the pool and in close liaison with the coaches.

Myotherapy (Physiohealth)
Myotherapy is an ideal tool for assisting swimmers as it can encompass prevention, rehabilitation and maintenance treatments along with the management of any current injuries/complaints.
Myotherapists assess and physically treat pain, injury and dysfunction affecting movement and mobility. Myotherapy is applied in the preventative, corrective and rehabilitative phases of therapy to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structure (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) of the human body.

Nutrition
Louise Falzon (Dietitian)
Nunawading Swimming Club would like to introduce you to a new member of our support team, Louise Falzon, Sports Dietitian. Louise is a highly experienced dietitian who specialises in sports nutrition, weight loss advice, and the management of eating disorders. Louise can give expert advice in the areas of recovery, pre and post training and competition nutrition for swimming.
Louise currently works in private practice and corporate health. She runs the nutrition program for swimming at the Victorian Institute of Sport and also consults as the dietitian to the Australian Swimming Team and the Western Bulldogs Football Club.
Louise will be available for consultations once every month at NSC.
